August 15th, 2008 Posted in Cyclocross Bikes, Uncategorized | No Comments »

It’s just the bike you need. Whether you’re looking to try out a cyclocross race or you just want a great bike for riding on and off road - cyclocross bikes are a great choice.

We’re doing cross bikes in a big way - we’ve just opened up BikeCX, an online store dedicated to everything cross. This means that we’ll have the best selection of cross bikes, frames, tires, wheels and gear in stock - right here in Waterbury.

Redlines are already built and ready to go. Van Dessel Hole Shots and Gin and Trombones frames should be here any minute. Soma. Lynskey. and more.  Stop in and check them out.

Waterbury Trails - Cautiously Open

August 13th, 2008 Posted in Shop News | No Comments »

The rain has slowed a bit, allowing for trails to begin to dry out. We’re opening the lower trails on Perry Hill  for riding including Disneyland and Joe’s. Given the improving weather forecast, just about everything should  be back open within a day or so.

Some of the upper trails were heavily damaged by being ridden while it was so wet. We hope to see everyone at upcoming trail days to help repair these trails so that they can remain open for mountain biking.

Mountain Bike Trails Remain Closed

Perry Hill Trails Closed

We’re hopeful that the weather will soon change, but I don’t think anyone can deny that we’ve been the recipient of an inordinate amount of rain these past few weeks. Trails that normally dry quickly are waterlogged. Standing water on many trails.

Jase Roberts from MAMBA said it best in a recent email:

If in doubt, stick to the roads.

It’s at times like these that tire tracks in trails give anti-bike
elements ammunition that they’ll use against us for *years*.  Don’t
risk it.  If the whole trail is wet, stay off.  If it’s dry with wet
spots, walk the wet.  Whether or not walking through mud is actually
better is debatable, but it’s far better for our image to have
footprints through a mud hole than tire tracks…

Stowe trails are closed. Fellowship of the Wheel has closed their trails. It was even too wet for Millstone, and they closed their trails earlier this week. When in doubt, pick up the phone and ask the trail manager or send an email.  Thank you and pray for sun.

Waterbury Working on Bike Park

Waterbury bikers have something to look forward to - our very own bike park!

Village Trustrees have granted approval for the construction of a beginner/intermediate bike park on the land by the Ice Center. The planning, construction and maintenance of the bike park will be overseen by the Town of Waterbury Recreation Committee. The idea is to construct a park that will be fun for kids of all ages - 5 years to 55 years. A park that will be safe, yet challenging. A park that will be a fun place for families to hang out and ride together. It’s location, near the trailhead for the Perry Hill trails is perfect.

There’s a lot of work to be done between now and the opening of the park. The area will need to be brush hogged and much dirt will have to be brought in to construct the jumps. If you can offer any assistance in any of these areas or would like to be involved in the planning process, please contact the Waterbury Recreation Committee.

Congrats on getting approval for the park!

Leave from the shop at 6pm. Plenty of parking in the new lot behind the shop.

If you’re going to join us, please let me know by email(mandywisell@gmail.com) or phone (244-7330). Thanks!

Perry Hill Trails - Still Wet, Still Closed

Perry Hill Trails Closed

We’ve had a ridiculous amount of rain over the past two weeks - just when you thought it couldn’t rain harder - it did. Just when you thought it couldn’t rain again - it did. Everything is wet, wet, wet and everything is muddy.

The upper trails in Perry Hill need a chance to dry out before they are opened to biking again. There’s lot’s of mud and standing water. We ask your help in respecting the signage and refraining from riding the trails until they’ve had another day or two to dry out.

Help us be good stewards of the land. Stay on the lower trails. Ride the road. Practice your skids. Just give the trails a day or two to dry off.
